This major project created an extended and accessible home for Oakley. We created a new bedroom and bathroom suite in the ground floor extension and made the entire ground floor accessible by widening internal doorways. We created a new external entrance door with level access to the front drive and road and a level access out to the rear garden. Specialist medical items included a rise and fall bed and bath. The wheelchair accessible garden funded by Oakley’s uncle Jonny is another key feature with level access from the house and can be used all year round.

Near zero threshold result from Oakley’s room and openings.
Getting minimal thresholds around the site was hard and so important for Oakley’s independance to be able to wheel indoors all of ground floor, and the patio, and around the astro turf to the side alley and new entrance. There is also a 1/12 ramp so no more front door step issues.

Garden result – astroturf and border plants. Great thinking from Amy on designing the accessible garden. Oakley needs assistance pushing along it but we now think he’ll become strong enough to push his manual chair on! Step taking and other physio is good outside on this when we can.

Widening our 3 key ground floor openings was critical to accessibility for Oakley . Not easy on old walls.

Physio continued, as ever mostly in the lounge. There was only a few days when we werent able to.

Getting levels for minimal threshold for Oakley was hard, and we all managed it.
